Who doesn’t love the 4th of July? We’ve been celebrating the signing of the Declaration of Independence since 1776. Normal festivities include picnics, barbeques, and watching fireworks.
Many people like to spend the 4th outside but, here in sunny California, it can often get too hot to not retreat indoors to cool down (at least temporarily).
We’re here today to give you essential, important tips that you’ll need to make sure that you and your family celebrate the 4th in a healthy, happy way. Let’s discuss some important 4th of July HVAC tips!
Learn How to Stay Hydrated
When the 4th of July starts to heat up, don’t melt down. One of the easiest ways to save money is simply to stay hydrated.
It may seem odd that one of the top HVAC tips isn’t actually about your actual air conditioner.
However, making sure that you keep drinking glasses of cool water throughout the day is one of the easiest ways to stay healthy while giving your wallet a break.
In addition, heat exhaustion and heat stroke are very real concerns in the summer in Berkeley, so your water intake can drastically affect your health. Minimally, adults should drink at least eight glasses of water (eight ounces each) daily. This amount increases the hotter it gets outside.
Watching your hydration status means that you won’t have to run your air conditioner as much, also. When you drink cool water, it makes your body feel cool from the inside out. When you feel cooler internally, you are able to handle warmer temperatures without needing to turn the temperature down too far.
Make Sure To Check Your Air Filter
Nothing says 4th of July like smelling the smoke from a barbeque. The smell of hamburgers and hot dogs on the grill is synonymous with the holiday, but the increase in smoke coming into your house can be tough on your home’s air filter.
Even if you’re not hosting a get-together today, now that we’re in the middle of the calendar year, it’s a great idea to at least take a look at the quality of your air filter. This HVAC tip is appropriate any time of the year, however.
Filters should be replaced roughly every 3 – 6 months, and more frequently in homes that include smokers or pets. If you’re not comfortable checking or replacing them yourself, contact your local HVAC company.
Schedule Your Preventative Maintenance
Instead of learning the hard way how a house with no air conditioning can ruin a party, prepare ahead of time by scheduling your preventative maintenance.
Preventative maintenance is another one of the quality HVAC tips that can be applied at any time of the year, but it is especially important this time of year.
So this 4th of July, if you think your air conditioner needs assistance, contact our company. We’re happy to help keep your guests cool and the party going all year round. We’re also available to schedule preventive maintenance! Stay safe and cool this summer, Berkeley! Happy Independence Day!
